Dear Friends,

Nowadays, minimally-invasive and non-invasive therapies, exemplified by ablation of tumors with less harm to patients, are the trend of modern medical development. With the envision to accelerate the development of minimally-invasive and non-invasive medicine, International Society of Minimally Invasive and Virtual Surgery (ISMIVS) was founded in 2013 (at then known as International Society of Minimally Invasive and Noninvasive Medicine ) in Chongqing, China, upholding the medical concept of “the diseases that harm require therapies that harm less” and dedicated to the standardization and promotion of the clinical practice of minimally invasive and noninvasive therapies through education and research.  Since then, ISMIVS has been convening Yangtze International Summit of Minimally Invasive and Noninvasive Medicine every 2 years in Chongqing, China, providing medical professionals with a platform for academic exchanges about minimally invasive and noninvasive medicine, and has organized jointly with other societies several regional academic meetings in different countries.

This year, joining the hands of Society of African Gynaecologist and Obstetrician(SAGO), ISMIVS is going to convene a regional meeting in Johannesburg, South Africa on September 14, 2019, addressing the topic of HIFU therapy for tumors. As a game-changing technology, HIFU provides doctors and patients with a novel or better solution to disease management. Already, the American Association for the Advancement of Science listed HIFU as “an important frontier of global technology”. It is good to know that this technology has been successfully applied in Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital and showing satisfactory clinical results. And Chris Hani Bara Hospital was awarded 2018 KHANYISA Service Excellence for its provision of HIFU treatment for uterine fibroids. Cheered by this good news, ISMIVS would like to work together with SAGO to disseminate and bring the benefits of this technology to more people in Africa.

Looking forward to seeing you in Johannesburg!
